With the launch of the private Health Insurance Marketplace & expanded Michigan Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, our institution wanted to extend enrollment help to those who needed it, and make it clear which plans we accept. Our researchers who study the ACA and related topics asked for our help in disseminating their results for best impact.
Through fact sheets, posters, banners, several pages of web content, media attention, multiple articles aimed at internal & external audiences, letters to charity care patients and social media posts, we conveyed the Health System’s willingness to help anyone enroll – and our broad acceptance of ACA plans. We plan to continue as further ACA milestones approach.
Our web pages on ACA topics have been viewed nearly 9,000 times, our flyers are posted in every UMHS clinic, and approximately 1,500 people have sought information from our enrollment counselors. We’ve caught the attention of the Association of American Medical Colleges and the White House, and our press releases on UMHS researchers’ studies have been viewed thousands of times and featured in top media outlets.
